Bespoke Furniture for Contemporary Residential Interiors
Black Creek Designs is the studio practice of furniture designer-maker Thomas Throop. For over 30 years, the studio has collaborated with interior designers and architects to create bespoke, architecturally informed furniture for high-end residential projects.
The work is designed to support the overall interior—quietly reinforcing proportion, materiality, and spatial intent rather than competing for attention.
Approach
Furniture is approached as an integral part of the architectural and interior framework. Each piece is developed to sit naturally within its environment, contributing clarity, balance, and longevity to the space.
All work is designed and fabricated in the Connecticut studio, allowing for direct involvement at every stage of the process. This hands-on approach supports refinement, flexibility, and a high level of detail throughout a project.
Material selection, proportion, and detailing are resolved with long-term performance in mind. The goal is furniture that feels intentional, calm, and enduring.
Process
Every commission is unique, but projects typically follow these stages:
01 — Initial Conversation
Understanding design intent, architectural context, scope, and timeline.
02 — Design Development
Concept sketches, drawings, and proportional refinement developed collaboratively.
03 — Material & Detail Resolution
Finalizing materials, finishes, and joinery to support clarity and longevity.
04 — Fabrication
All work fabricated in the Connecticut studio with direct oversight throughout.
05 — Delivery & Installation
Coordinated delivery and placement to ensure seamless integration into the interior.
A clear, collaborative process designed to support interior designers from concept through completion.
